Rishikesh and Karanprayag promises to be a masterpiece in Indian Engineering. The railway line once completed in about 5 years would stretch for approximately 127-km. Around 60 per cent of its length will pass through tunnels making it one of its own type. The route will have 11 stations covering Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal and Chamoli district, passing through treacherous terrains of the Himalayan range, connecting the Garhwal region to the rail network.
This project will ease the pressure on road traffic. The alignment for the project has been finalised, according to an official release.
A meeting chaired by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna was briefed on the matter by a senior Rail Vikas Nigam official, Satish Agnihotri, who said that the survey work for the project has been completed.
